Aberdare Park is one of my favorites, its in such a beautiful and magical place it really does hold a special place in my heart
what a start, i took two bikes with me to see what road racing on a supersport would be like, but kept my main bike being my go to, i raced here the year before but i use "Raced" very loosely, i was more concerned of just getting round, which made my main aim to just get more comfortable,
So saturday morning, i sorted myself out and started to get my head in the game for the weekend to come, in the process green light productions came to have a chat and place cameras on my bike, in the process became an interview on camera, they said that they wanted footage and interview for the series "King of the Roads", im now going to have air time on the program that you only ever sit and watch and hope you could be even half as good as the racers you see on there.
first outing on the twin for warm up, just had a look see where i was going and just got a feel of the track again, to be honest i felt really good its a very short and very technical track but i remembered where i was struggling last year so kept my aim on just making sure my lines where right,
so Race 1 with the warm up laps they broke the high number and low numbers into there separate races to qualify for the 700 Twin final, which would be later in the day, so Race 1 for me was high numbers and i was row 2 6th on the grid, lights went out and off we go, as always my grid starts are incredibly poor, so to the back for first corner, as i started to feel myself on the track i started to gain my positions back, obtaining 5th within half race distance, as i pulled onto the back of two others who i had the feel i could get passed, as one of the racers just in front made a move on the rider in front of them as i watched his back wheel slip as he slides sideways, so i took invasive action, narrowly avoiding him, race was red flagged for a race restart, all those places i made i knew i wasn't getting back but still gave it my best but didn't end where i could have been,
so i qualified for the finals with a lap time i didn't expect to get, but wasn't on the Grid down to a technical issue.
Race 2 was for the Welsh open the fastest of racers around Aberdare, but i thought i would see where i could get to but just wanted more time on the track, well i can safely say i surprised myself i was only just out of the qualifying time and i was following people around who i would not say i was good enough to see on track let alone follow,
Sunday Race Day
Race 2 700 Twin again to qualify into the twin finals, again had an ok start and got my head down and started to really feel the track again even started to do some overtakes in places i didn't think you could, i felt good and finished well, Qualifying for the Final Race again with an incredibly strong lap time, but again "technical issue" i wasn't on the grid
which became the end of my weekend,
It was an incredible weekend and achieved things i thought was still out my grasp, but was very disheartening at the same time,
so i entered my R6 into the Park 600 challenge more on the interest of how it feels racing a SuperSport would be on the road, it most definitely more of a handful than the twin, it was throwing me around the place a little, most definitely need someone who knows what there doing to have a look as i spent a lot of the weekend putting things right on it and as i was sorting it it was slowly becoming more of an animal,
so race 1 which again was broken down into heats for the final, i was in a reasonable position on the grid but more to the back, again got my head down and was just trying to feel the bike, really enjoyed it and my lap time was just slightly longer than my Supertwin time which i was over the moon about and i was just out of the Qualifying time for the final, it made me realize the 600 isn't out my reach now for road racing,
Sunday Race day
Again another qualifying race, very similar race as the day before just caught on the back of a very fast rider and just used him to tow me along, my aim was to beat my lap time from yesterday and i did, not only that i managed to qualify into the main race in last place, which i didn't expect but due to the bearings in my wheels i couldn't risk running that bike in the race,
i cant believe the results i had got, i was not only racing with people you dream you could be Racing with, but now the lap times i'm achieving on the bikes i'm racing are times i honestly cant believe
so the races will be covered on TV, Thursday 22nd on ITV4 at 2100
and Friday 23rd on ITV4 2000, i hope i look alright on it
