on Friday the 7th of April i was on my way to wales to approach my first road race with the nerves for what i was about to achieve, i spent saturday looking at the track to see what was what and keep eyes out for the general things you would find on the tarmac that might loose grip, to look at the hairpin which was impressive in videos but something else in real life, i was set but apprehensive,
Race day, was a 10 minute practice followed by 3 Races, on practice i felt tight, some of the guys that was out are obviously conditioned racers to the track but felt good,
Race 1 was upon me, to find your starting position you choose a peg which gives you a grid position, Terry my Sponsor and mechanic came to grab one for me, i was 22nd on grid of 27, as the lights went out i felt good and cracked on, the first hairpin was foot down clutch control with so many racers going into such a small turn, i held on the back of a rider in front for a tow, and let the confidence grow, i finished the race 20th over all and 12th in class,
Race 2, i started 20th on grid and had another great start, and felt comfortable about 4 laps in i felt really comfortable and started to crack on, i managed to start taking a couple of people and felt really good, i finished 16th over all and 8th in class, what an achievement
Race 3 i started 16th and finished 16th, but i was holding on to the tail end of the fast racers, i knew if i tried overtakes the risk was too great as i wanted to see 3 checked flags and that's what i did, i finished 7th in class, which has put me into the championship, im 9th in championship,
This weekend felt like a turning point, i needed this, i needed to see if the roads are doable and if my brain will let me do it, and i have left with the biggest smile and race entry forms for Aberdare Road races, this is amazing the racers, marshals, staff and spectators where second to non, to say i enjoyed myself would be an understatement, BRING ON THE ROADS..........
i would like to give thanks to the people who have supported me, my family, friends, sponsors and you all
