Thundersport GB Race Report - Snetterton Round 2
I turned up on Thursday ready for testing on the Friday, I was in a really good place because of the last round, I felt positive and confident coming to Snetterton.
I had a really good first session and started trying a few things to make me quicker, unfortunately on the second session I ended up under the bike, I was gutted ! The off at the exit of Murrys ended my test day !
On Saturday the day started as it meant to go on, rain rain and more rain, so the wets where on the bike and I qualified on row 7, 19th on the grid. Thats the highest position on the grid so far.
The first race and I really struggled with the wet tyres and wet set up, my aim was to gain more experience on the wet tyres, my lap times were 1:39.380 but not racing on wets before at Snetterton I managed 6th in class.
Race two was dry so I went out on dry tyres and a dry set up, unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse one lap in and I couldn’t hold any grip with the slicks so reluctantly I came in, over half the grid did too ! That ended that race !!
Race three and again I just tried to improve on the wets and gain more knowledge with the wet set up, I was torrential so my aim was to just get round, stay on and finish, I couldn't see a thing! the water and spray was been thrown up by the other bikes for a lap or two and once that cleared up my glasses steamed up so I was lucky to get round to be honest, I was lapping in 1:44.200 holding forth position.
Race four was dry but looked like it could rain once again, I elected to go out on wets but this dicision was wrong and my mistake, A lot of the grid couldn't make the correct choice either, I managed a 1:35.452 which was 5th in class, This weekend has been the hardest ever! all I can do is make amends to the mistakes I made and move on with more experience in the wet. I am really looking forward to the Cadwell Park meeting and hope we get better weather over that weekend too.
