I went out in the first session and got a good feel of the circuit, still learning my body positions and not hanging off the bike as much as I should be, the 3rd session went well and felt like I had improved but still struggled with the exit from Edwina’s.
On the 4th session I managed to stay with a group but somehow got stood up half way round Gerrards and went off road, I was going too fast to stay upright and fell off, my right shoulder took full force of the impact, at this point I really thought my Mallory Park weekend was over.
1st Race day
I was a little sore and bruised but felt I could carry on, I went out to qualify, if my shoulder was too painfull when I was riding then my weekend was over but I managed somehow to get into it and managed a 1.11 lap.
The first race went ok, the bike felt like it was squirming alot on the exit of Edwina’s and I couldn’t figure out why.
My second race went better, entry into Edwina’s got smoother but the bike was still sqirming on exit, I couldn’t get below 1.11 a lap.
2nd Race day
The shoulder was aching but the pain killers was doing their job, warm up session and I pushed the bike a lot but this 1.11 felt like my limit. I came back in and we had a chat about this sqirming issue so i stiffend the rear shocks one turn.
The bike felt a lot better and the exit became smoother, because of this I managed 1.08.5 lap, winner.
I felt a lot more comfortable on the bike and after a few laps this sqirming issue came back on the exit of Edwina’s, it turned out I was pushing the bike to its limit again! my lap time came down to a 1.07.6,
All this hard work and I have learnt something from this weekends efforts, I think I heed to go another turn harder on the rear.
After seeking advice from different people in the paddock I could move my shoulder, various people told me I hadn’t broke my collarbone but it was tendon damage - As you can see from the photograph my x-ray from the hospital tells its own story! The bone has been completely snapped off. I really am suffering now but it hasn’t put me off. If It heals in time we will be at the next round at Donington Park.
